Physioworks Health Group Physiotherapist Amy Shipperd  spent four days recently covering the 2025 Australian Tennis Championships (IDA) — the national tennis event for players with intellectual impairments.

The tournament, held at the National Tennis Centre in Melbourne in early October, kicked off with an inspiring speech from Australian tennis great John Fitzgerald, who had all the athletes raring to go.

It was a busy but rewarding few days for Amy with plenty of pre-match ankle taping, managing overuse forearm injuries, and getting creative with blister dressings throughout the event. There were a few on-court call-outs for physio treatment, but thankfully nothing to serious.

Physiotherapist Amy Shipperd has worked extensively as event or team physio at numerous National and International tennis events, with both able bodied and impaired athletes.

Knowing that many of the athletes at the Australian Tennis Championships don’t have regular access to physiotherapy, Amy took the opportunity to educate them on tennis-specific strength and conditioning, recovery strategies, hydration, and nutrition — helping the athletes to better manage their performance and prevent injury.

Physiotherapist Amy Shipperd is available for consultation at Physioworks Camberwell – call 9889 6611 for an appointment.
