The winter sporting period is always a busy time for the physiotherapy and allied health care team at Physioworks Health Group.

In 2018, the Physioworks Health Group team are committed to providing sports physiotherapy and allied health care for numerous professional and community sporting clubs and leagues, across a range of sports, with services including training/match day support and ongoing injury management education sessions.

Physioworks Health Group Director David Francis is a strong advocate for community sport participation. “Active sports participation is a very important for the general fitness, health and well-being of our community, especially across the winter period.  Physioworks and my team are committed to supporting local community sport participation to ensure all have access to a level of health and injury management expertise and care in their chosen sport and activity.”

To help support weekend sporting participation across our communities, Physioworks Berwick provides injury triage and treatment every Sunday from 8am-12pm. Physioworks Cranbourne and Physioworks Mulgrave clinics (Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre) are both open on Saturday morning from 8am-12pm.

Further strengthening our relationship in 2018, Physioworks Health Group is providing Physiotherapy and allied health care services to Casey Basketball (CBA); including the Casey Cavaliers; and the Pakenham Warriors.

Physioworks Health Group continue our long term relationships as Sports Medicine Partner of the South East Football Netball League (including SEFNL Woman’s, SE Juniors, SE Netball), the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition (WGFNC) and Ellinbank & District Football League (EDFL).  Physioworks Camberwell clinic provides ongoing support to junior football club, the Ashy Redbacks; while Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre (Physioworks Mulgrave) supports the boys & girls at the Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club.

Injury Prevention & Injury Management Education of trainers/coaches/parents is a key focus of our community sport support.  Across all our clinics over the last month, the Physioworks Health Group team have held six evening education sessions, for each of our community league & junior footy club partners, to help best ensure the highest level of player welfare.

And summer sports don’t stop in winter. Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh has been working as the team physiotherapist to the Deaf Cricket Australia Men’s team, including an intensive 9-day, 17 man-squad training camp at the BUPA National Cricket Centre in Brisbane in late April, in preparation for the T20 World Cup in India later this year.

The Exercise Physiology team at Physioworks Health Group are “motivating and moving” our clinics and our patients in promoting Exercise Right week from May 21-27.

An annual campaign headed by ESSA (Exercise & Sports Science Australia) this year’s Exercise Right Week theme is ‘Motivation to Move‘

The focus of the promotion is highlighting real-life exercise journeys of every-day Australians whose lives have been positively impacted by physical activity, with an aim to inspire those who don’t exercise to move more, demonstrating to all, young and old, the importance of seeking the right exercise expert for their requirements.

Physioworks Health Group offer Exercise Physiology at our Camberwell, Cranbourne, Mulgrave (WPPC) and Pakenham clinics.

Physioworks Brooke DeHey, Megan Jepson, Daniel Jeavons and Jude Hewavasam are all highly experienced Exercise Physiologists, who along with Strength & Conditioning coach Irwin Kim, can all tailor an exercise program for you and support you on your exercise journey

Physioworks Health Group APA titled Sports Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh recently provided his skill set to an intensive Australian Men’s Deaf Cricket team camp based at the Cricket Australia National Cricket Centre in Brisbane.

The Australian Cricket Deaf team will compete in a World Cup in India in December. This is the first time that CA have fully funded the Australian Cricket Deaf team, so CA are looking to take the program to the next level in terms of high performance.

Over the nine (9) days of the camp numerous indoor training sessions, internal trial matches and games against an Invitational U17 Queensland team were held. The camp also included sports psychology (team culture) and sports nutrition. Australian spinner Nathan Lyon surprised the team spending a day working and coaching, which was great for the 17 man training squad.

Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh undertook basic Auslan courses to help communicate with the players before presenting educational preparation and recovery lectures to all the players.

Everyday post training the team did hydrotherapy in the NCC pools, and learnt the benefits of using the hot and cold plunge pools. “At first the team struggled with the cold pools (about 10 degrees) but we got to the point where we had the whole team in for 10 minutes” said Matthew. “We put a real focus on warm ups and recovery, and across the camp there were no major injuries so hopefully the educational injury prevention aspects of the camp stand all players in good stead moving forward” added Matthew.
